Long Term Fall 2010 Wrap-up

Today was the final day of the final final finally.

The course of this semester has thoroughly been a hellacious roller coaster at times but I am happy to say I came out on the other end somewhat less tattered and damaged than I had originally expected.

To catch you up quickly heres the summary of August-November.

In late August (almost too late) I came back to California after a surprisingly busy but fun summer. The semester started with me enrolled in Advanced Rendering, Advanced Product, Lettering Fundamentals, and Intro to Digital Tools. They all started off fairly well but for some reason with a mix of home life and lack thereof, and going from the hustle-and-bustle of Tennessee to essentially solitary confinement here in California, I just think it was a poor re-introduction to the rhythm of things.
It wasnt too long after our first few projects that I realized that I was not happy. Not in the "oh I have homework, sorry I cant go out" kind of way but more so in the "I have 4 projects due next week and I have no idea where to even start." My self deprecating thoughts and general lack of human interaction outside of school (See: no one home when I am) ended up getting the best of me and affecting my work very negatively.  Sketching seemed so foreign to me and I felt like I was suddenly drowning out past the deep end.
Strangely enough around the time of my dark days I realized the one thing that had helped me last fall. That was to go home.
Two weeks before Thanksgiving I made the decision to go home and try to clear my head. It worked, and after some careful planning and deep thoughts, I decided that the best thing for me to do was to remove two classes that had been the main cause of my blunders. Advanced Rendering and Adv. Product.
Now without going too far off on a tangent about why I will say that I am enrolling for those classes in the spring and I do plan on taking them and passing with flying colors too. Along with my lack of preparedness for the classes I think I was genuinely spoiled by my spring semesters Product and Rendering instructor because, well, he was insanely amazing. So to see what I was given this fall was a letdown. I know we cant all have amazing teachers all the time but I just like the more involved instructors with a clear sense and flow to their lesson plans.
So, I shall be returning for a good round two for Spring and I am genuinely looking forward to it. Along with that, I am officially enrolled in Art Center at Night for the spring term too. Intro to Product and Transportation Design. BALLS.

So after I consolidated my classes, I focused really good on finishing on a high note with those classes. Boy did I ever! I know for a fact that I finished today with an "A" in my Digital tools class and as far as my Lettering class, since it was taught by an Art Center graduate who specializes in Typefaces, I will be extatic if I am able to get an "A" but knowing his grading style he does not give many A's. Keeping my fingers crossed. I was able to get a good head start on my final that was due today and my father had actually called me last week to see how my workload and things were coming and I told him that I had a week to complete everything but I was about  80% done anyway. So he asked if I wanted to go with him on a double-layover to Milan, Italy. WOAH. Milan, huh?!

Of course I went.

I landed on tuesday night after flying back to LA allllll day and I had opportunities on the flight to complete the project and while I was back home I polished everything off, then Wednesday night at like 1:45am I had to run up to FedEx Office to have my prints made, to my despair they were slammed with other projects (not to mention the gentleman that greeted me was a complete jerk about me wanting to have 6 prints made, it takes 5 minutes!!) So I drove to Glendale where there was another location, still kind of peeved from the lack of the Pasadena's store's professionalism (regardless if it was 2am or not) the guy in Glendale helped me and THEN some. He went out of his way to make sure everything looked good. Really awesome guy. I think his name was Raul. Visit him and give him your business. Really.

Critique went well today and I have been home cat-napping for the first half and packing since about midnight. I leave here at 5am my time to the airport and then flying home!

Ill update once I am there.

Enjoy some pics of my progress!

So Many

I feel like there are so many cars out in the world that I want to just own for a week at a time. Not only could I review them and find their practicality in everyday use but really get a sense for what their target was in creating it.

So in other sad news I troll the internets looking for those cars that would make my 'short list'-THEN turning into my million car list. I feel its healthy to have long lists of things that occupy your mind in a somewhat obsessive way. HA.

Heres the first part of the list that I could think of.

P.S. Buy them. All of them.

In other news-Happy December, happy holidays. big Big BIG post coming within the next week. In the mean time enjoy the cars:)
